Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Going Loco ... part 2..

Well I could not resist getting on with weathering the train. So here it is, complete with a heist in progress by Billy the Kid  to show the scale of things.

It was given a light airbrush with a flat earth colour to just tone it all down. Then i used a a white spirit based wash with a mix of enamel (humbrol) chocolate brown and black - i used this a couple of times around seams and joins etc. and made it darker around the funnel etc. Once dry it was given a light drybrush with vallejo light earth and mix of Iraqi sand. The metals were also given a light brush with a mix of gunmetal and silver to pick them out.

I added a driver in the cab from a figure wearing dungaress from the lead pile .

Very pleased with the end result. It looks just right! - so just waiting for a cheap carriage or two and a caboose  on ebay to complete it.

right back to my tartan!

  8. Fantastic job on the train. I've been looking for a suitable train for ages and I know now the On30 scale works perfect. Great weathering and the old west project is a pleasure to follow.
